March 17, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, urging Nigerians to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holidays on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, the minister called on them to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice cultivated during the holy month.

Tunji-Ojo further urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for national peace, unity, and sustained prosperity, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in nation-building.

He also encouraged citizens to celebrate in moderation and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged, in line with the spirit of the season.

Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering unity, the minister emphasised that peaceful coexistence remains critical to the country’s stability and development.
