September 22, (THEWILL) – The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has again extended his lead, winning Oredo LGA.
Earlier, THEWILL reported that the APC candidate had won in ten of 16 local governments election results announced by INEC.
At the resumption of collation on Sunday evening, the results of Oredo LGA declared shows the APC polled 30,780 votes, LP – 5,389 and the PDP – 24,938 votes.
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, is from Oredo LGA.
While the results of Ikpoba-Okha is being awaited, the APC candidate, had polled 275,329 votes to lead his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who scored with 220,892 votes. The Labour Party candidate, Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, is in a distant third position with 18,737 votes.
Rejecting the results, the PDP agent alleged that the party’s local government collation officers were denied access to the state collation centre, adding that PDP won “overwhelmingly” in the capital and wondered where “the results came from”.
“This is disgraceful, shameful. If this is the kind of country we will bequeath to our children, they will ask us questions one day”, he said.
Meanwhile, protests have erupted in Benin-City, the Edo State as protesters alleged manipulation of results by INEC in favour of the APC. Rejecting the results, they alleged that Results in the INEC view portal, IREV were different from those announced by the commission.
