He declared that he was leaving the state better than he met it with a crime free state in areas of robbery, kidnapping and spate of cultism as well as other criminal activities that before now were the order of the day.

“Nigerian are looking forward to a successful government election in Edo state and I therefore wish the new Commissioner of police well in his new assignment,” he said.

Adeoye, receiving the baton assured that his tenure would sustain everything that has been put in place and to improve on them as an apostle of crime prevention.

He promised that the electoral process would be hitch free with an assurance that the rank and file of the command would deploy the needed professional conduct and strategy towards making the polls a success.

“I want to say that I am an apostle of crime prevention, so we are going to be sustaining all the crime preventive strategies that have been put in place by the outgoing CP and that is to say that we are going to be reinforcing the song of policing and indeed security is everybody’s business,” he said.

“The idea of thinking that policing should be left to the police and other security agencies we want the people to discard. We are going to ensure we enlist their support in the policing of their own communities.

“Community policing like democracy is the policing of the community by the people and for the people, so the communities will be actively engaged in the policing of the society.

“Our message is that everybody should be law abiding, nobody should take the laws in his hands; election is a process of choosing leaders, so people should learn to do it peacefully. So, everybody that is involved in the conduct of the election should ensure that everything is done in accordance with the law.”
