February 10, (THEWILL) – Ebonyi state government on Wednesday, announced the immediate sack of the entire management of Ikwo College of Education, over alleged illegal employment.
The management has been directed to hand over to the Senior Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Education immediately.
The state commissioner for Information, Hon. Uchenna Orji, made the disclosure to newsmen during the Executive Council meeting of February 18, at the EXCO Chambers, Centenary City, new Government House Abakaliki.
The state government had suspended the provost of the college, Prof. Benedict Mbam, the registrar, Mrs Chinyere Ayama, and the bursar, Mrs Felicia Orisi, over improper employment, even as it nullified the said employment made since 2019.
The sack was following the recommendation of a committee set up to look into the said illegal employment.
Orji, stated: “EXCO received the report of the committee on illegal employment in Ebonyi state College of Education, Ikwo. Exco considered the report and resolved as follows:
“That the entire management of Ikwo College of Education is hereby sacked effective today, 9th February, 2022
“That The management is to hand over to the SSA on Education immediately.
“That an EXCO Committee made up of His Excellency, the ceputy Governor, SSA Religious and Welfare Matters (Very Rev. Fr. Abraham Chukwuma Nwali), and the Commissioner for Education (Dr. Zyl Nwangele) is to recommend to EXCO, persons that may be appointed to manage the College for one month (30 days).
“That advertisement shall be made for those that will run the management of the college within this period.
“That the committee to be set up as may be recommended by EXCO committee will review everything about the school that will help to revive the college.
“That all casual workers are hereby laid off. That all employments created from 2019 are hereby cancelled.”
