December 02, (THEWILL) – Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the English Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Wolves at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard gave the Gunners an early two-goal lead. Despite a late strike from Matheus Cunha causing a nervy finish, Arsenal held on to claim the three points.

The home side powered into an early lead, with Saka opening the scoring in the 6th minute. The England winger latched onto a cutback from Takehiro Tomiyasu to fire Arsenal ahead. Odegaard then doubled the Gunners’ advantage just seven minutes later, sweeping home after good work down the left from Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Arsenal continued to dominate in the first half, carving out several chances to extend their lead. Gabriel Martinelli struck the post, while Jesus saw an effort well saved. Wolves struggled to create, with David Raya only tested once before the interval.

The second half saw the visitors gain a foothold in the game, albeit without crafting many clear openings. As the match entered its closing stages, however, Nelson Semedo robbed Zinchenko to tee up Cunha for a lifeline. Substitute Eddie Nketiah then struck the woodwork in stoppage time as Arsenal survived a nervous finale.

The win sees Arteta’s men open up a four-point gap over reigning champions Manchester City ahead of their game on Sunday. The Gunners next face Luton Town in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, before travelling to Aston Villa next weekend.
