October 28, (THEWILL) – The Department of State Services (DSS), has confirmed a joint security operation at an estate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Media reports on Thursday, said American soldiers with Nigerian operatives, arrested a suspected terrorist at the TradeMoore estate in Lugbe, Abuja on Tuesday.
The reports, which quoted an official of the estate, said grenades and a box of other explosives were recovered in the operation.
However, the DSS in a statement on Friday, by its Spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, said the operation was conducted along with sister security agencies.
Afunanya however, denied working with American soldiers during the raid.
“I can categorically tell you that we did not carry out any joint operation with American Soldiers as being widely reported in the media.
“Though we carried out an operation in an Abuja Estate with sister agencies, no foreign troops were involved”, he said.
The raid came days after the United States Embassy issued a travel advisory, with an alert to a possible terror attack on Abuja
But the Nigerian government on Wednesday insisted that the country, including the capital Abuja, is safe for citizens and foreigners, contrary to an advisory by the US and UK governments.
