May 21, (THEWILL) – A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state, Segun Sowunmi, has urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, not to permit the state executive members to conduct primary elections in the state.
Showunmi, who said he suspected a foul play by the executive in the forthcoming primaries, accused the members of being biased, while seeking their dissolution over alleged violation of their oath of office.
He stated this in letter dated, Friday, May 20 and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, noting that if the executive went ahead with the primaries, it would deny the party a candidate to contest the 2023 election.
The governorship aspirant had dragged the state executive to court, to seek their dissolution and challenging a statement credited to an aspirant of the party, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, that his nomination form was procured by members of the state executive.
Former VP Abubakar Atiku’s Spokesman in 2019 Presidential election, prayed the High court for an interlocutory injunction restraining the executive from conducting the ward and state congress.
But, Justice A.A Akinyemi in his ruling, dismissed Showunmi’s case, citing lack of jurisdiction.
Not satisfied with the ruling, Showunmi said that he has approached a court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, to set aside the ruling of the Ogun state court and allow the appeal
