Dodgers, Padres MLB Opening Game Hit By Bomb Threat In Seoul

March 20, (THEWILL)- Heightened security measures are in place at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea ahead of the MLB opening game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

South Korean police are investigating a bomb threat emailed to the country’s ConsulateGgeneral in Vancouver, Canada earlier today.

The threatening message, written in English, alleged that explosives had been planted at the stadium. It claimed to be from a Japanese lawyer, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. Authorities quickly dispatched special operations officers to sweep the venue, though no device has been found so far.

While officials have not confirmed all details publicly, the South Korean police presence has been visibly increased around the Gocheok Sky Dome. Fans arriving for the highly anticipated regular-season opener between the two MLB rivals from California are being subjected to extra screening measures.

South Korea had been eagerly awaiting this marquee sporting event after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted previous attempts to host international competitions. MLB had announced the 2024 season would begin with the Dodgers vs Padres series in Seoul to grow baseball’s popularity across Asia.
