June 18, (THEWILL)- Armed men, suspected to be bandits, have shot dead a Medical Doctor, Precious Chinnedu Emeka, in Salka village, Magama Local Government Area of Niger state.
Late Chinedu, who owned and operated a medical health facility in the area, was attacked in his clinic at about 9pm by armed Fulani men numbering about five.
The men, one masked, had entered the clinic and demanded to see the Doctor, who was inside the compound, and took him away to an unknown destination.
According to a resident source in the village, Dr. Precious, as he was fondly called, was inside the compound that doubles as his clinic, when the gunmen entered and took him away.
“When they took the Doctor away, we reported to the police and the local vigilante. The following day (Thursday afternoon) the vigilante later called us that they had seen a corpse inside the bush and we were able to identify that of our oga,” the source explained.
Efforts made to confirm from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger state command, Abiodun Wasiu, proved abortive. His mobile lines could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Ohaneze Ndi-igbo, Niger State President, Chief Emmanuel Ezeugo, confirmed the murder of Chinedu, describing the killing as “very unfortunate.”
Ezeugo, however, added that, “Igbo community are investigating the death of the medical doctor.”
He called on security agencies to fish out the killers and prosecute them.
The Ohaneze President, who however recalled the incident surrounding the death of the former Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Godswill Obioma, expressed sadness over what seemed to be targeted at Igbos in Niger state and appealed to President Buhari to order an investigation into recent deaths of people of the South-East extraction in the state.
