SAN FRANCISCO, September 07, (THEWILL) – Serbian Tennis player, and world number one, Novak Djokovic, will lose all ranking points which he gathered at the US Open and will also be fined $250,000 in prize money after he was disqualified from the tournament on Sunday.

In a statement, the US Tennis Association said Djokovic broke the Grand Slam rules for “intentionally hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly within the court or hitting a ball with negligent disregard of the consequences.

“Because he was defaulted, Djokovic will lose all ranking points earned at the US Open and will be fined the prize money won at the tournament in addition to any or all fines levied with respect to the offending incident.”

THEWILL reports that Djokovic was disqualified after he struck a female line umpire carelessly with the ball during match against Spanish tennis player, Pablo Carreno Busta.
