Djokovic Seeks Record 25th Grand Slam Title At 2024 Australian Open

January 10, (THEWILL) – When the first Grand Slam of the year commences in Australia, Novak Djokovic will resume his quest for tennis immortality in an attempt to capture his 25th career Grand Slam singles title.

The world number one enjoyed one of his finest seasons ever in 2023, breaking the record with his 10th Australian Open triumph before claiming further majors at Roland Garros and Flushing Meadows to equal Margaret Court’s long-standing benchmark of 24 Grand Slam titles.

Court, an Australian legend, won her last major 50 years ago in 1973. Now, on his preferred hard courts at Melbourne Park, Djokovic is poised to surpass her and cement his place in history. He overcame obstacles both on and off the court to prevail in 2023, braving a hamstring injury and political controversy involving his father.

Aside from a stunning loss to Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon, the 36-year-old was virtually peerless in 2023. “You’re not meant to play tennis like that at 36,” said former coach Boris Becker. “When will he get tired or lose motivation?”

After having his 43-match Australian Open winning streak snapped at the 2024 United Cup, Djokovic has not enjoyed the ideal preparation. However, he remains focused on claiming more major glory and achieving the “Golden Slam” – all four Grand Slams and Olympic gold in the same year.

With his unrivalled mentality, fitness and technical brilliance, Djokovic remains the player to beat. “The drive is still there,” he confirmed recently. “My body has been listening to me well.” That affirmation means a history-defining opportunity awaits in Melbourne.
