August 25, (THEWILL) – Liverpool continued their strong start to the 2024/2025 English Premier League season with a 2-0 victory over Brentford at Anfield on Sunday. New manager Arne Slot oversaw his first home win as goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah sealed the result.
Diaz opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing off a swift counter-attack led by Diogo Jota. The Colombian forward marked his 100th appearance for Liverpool with a powerful strike past Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
The visitors, still without striker Ivan Toney, struggled to create chances but went close through Kristoffer Ajer. Brentford’s defence held firm for much of the second half, with Flekken and Nathan Collins making key interventions.
Liverpool’s persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Salah doubled their lead. Diaz turned provider this time, setting up the Egyptian forward who guided the ball home expertly. Cody Gakpo nearly added a third late on, but his deflected effort struck the crossbar.
The win puts Liverpool level on points with Manchester City, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Arsenal at the top of the table, with all four teams having won their opening two matches. Slot’s side will look to maintain their perfect record in their next fixture.
