August 24, (THEWILL) – President Tinubu has approved the return of a delegation of Nigerian muslim leaders (Ulama), to Niger republic, for another round of dialogue with leader of the military junta, General Abdourahmane Tchiani.
The President gave his approval on Thursday when he met with the delegation, led by Sheikh Bala Lau , at the Presidential Villa, Abuja
Leader of the delegation, Sheikh Bala Lau , who confirmed the decision to State House correspondents, said they were at the villa to brief the President on the outcome of their visit to Niger over the political situation in the country.
ECOWAS had imposed sanctions on Niger to pressure the military junta to reinstate ousted President, Mohamed Bazoum.
The West African bloc also approved a standby military force for potential military intervention in Niger to restore constitutional order.
The Ulamas, who are opposed to war with the Nigerien military, said apart from the dire consequences of armed conflict, they were enjoined by their religious faith and the Quran to seek mediation before resorting to war.
