Dessers Make Permanent Move To Cremonese From Belgian Side Genk

August 10, (THEWILL) – Nigerian forward, Cyriel Dessers, has left Belgian club KRC Genk and signed for Serie A newboys, Cremonese, for an undisclosed sum.

There were several clubs interested in the 27-year-old including the recently promoted team and in the end Dessers, who led the scoring chart of the first Europa Conference League with 10 goals for Feyenoord, decided to go to Cremonese. He had spent the 2021/2022 season on loan at Feyenoord from Genk.

He joined Genk in 2020 from Dutch club Heracles, where his 15 league goals saw him finish as the Eredivisie’s joint-top scorer in the 2019/2020 season, and he scored 11 times in 43 games. Dessers, who was born in Belgium, opted to represent Nigeria internationally in 2020 and has been called up for national engagements since.

His goal-scoring sense has been obvious from a young age. Prior to joining top-flight Utrecht, Dessers scored 19 goals in 56 appearances while playing for NAC Breda in the second division in 2016/2017. At Feyenoord last season, however, Dessers had his most prolific season, making 41 appearances while tallying 20 goals and four assists.

The length of his contract with Cremonese was not made public but the club, who are playing in Serie A for the first time since the 1995/1996 season will hope the Nigerian can help keep them in the top flight. Dessers has three caps for Nigeria from which he has scored one goal.
