January 07, (THEWILL) – It was a momentous day for French soccer as the French Football Federation announced that manager Didier Deschamps had signed a contract extension that would keep him at the helm of the national team until 2026.

Deschamps, who has been with the team since 2012, has had a highly successful tenure, leading the team to victory at the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Nations League. He has also taken the team to the finals of Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup, where they were unfortunately defeated by Portugal and Argentina, respectively.

Under Deschamps’ leadership, the French team has had an impressive record, with 89 wins, 28 draws, and 22 losses in 139 matches. They have scored a total of 279 goals and conceded 119. In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Deschamps has also assembled a strong support team, with Guy Stéphan as his assistant, Franck Raviot as the goalkeeping coach, and Cyril Moine as the physical trainer. All three will continue in their roles under the new contract.

The extension of Deschamps’ contract was welcome news for many French soccer fans, as it had been rumored that Zinedine Zidane, the former Real Madrid manager, might take over as head coach. However, with Deschamps now signed on for an additional four years, it seems that Zidane will have to wait a bit longer before getting his chance to lead the national team.

The French team is currently ranked third in the standings and is looking forward to a strong showing in the upcoming years under Deschamps’ guidance.
