SAN FRANCISCO, September 12, (THEWILL) – The Delta State Legislature has reiterated its resolve to intensify efforts at enunciating new bills, that will further impact positively on Deltans in line with their constitutional calling of making laws for the good governance of the polity.
The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon (Engr.) Victor Ochei made this commitment in his address on the resumption of plenary for the third legislative year of the Fifth Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly.
Rt. Hon. Ochei revealed that, opting for this avowed commitment is the only veritable barometer, through which the Legislature’s contribution to the development of the society could be measured.
He further averred that for the House to function optimally, and in synergy with the Executive in giving hope to the masses, who daily look up to government for succour,” the legislature must continue on its part of robust, painstaking and detailed legislation to ensure that our people continue t derive the benefit of good governance”.
The legislator also affirmed that the House will continually synergise with the public in the process of any legislation, which is the hallmark of participatory democracy, as such will debunk the presumptuous notion that that legislators know it all.
He therefore appealed to Deltans to avail themselves the opportunity of public hearings in order to further enrich the laws.
