November 12, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion’s winless English Premier League run was extended to six matches on Sunday, following a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United at the Amex Stadium. Roberto De Zerbi has now gone his longest spell without a league victory since taking charge of the Seagulls last year.
The home side took the lead in the 8th minute through a sensational solo effort from Ivorian winger, Simon Adingra. However, Mahmoud Dahoud’s 69th-minute red card for the visitors shifted momentum. Four minutes later, Brighton defender Adam Webster scored an own goal under pressure to bring Sheffield United level.
Brighton had started brightly with Adingra opening the scoring following a mazy dribble and one-two with Facundo Buonanotte. De Zerbi celebrated wildly with fans as Brighton made it 28 straight league games finding the net.
The Blades almost grabbed a shock second-minute lead but Gustavo Hamer’s header went just wide. Ansu Fati and Dahoud also went close for the visitors before Webster’s own goal.
Dahoud was dismissed for stamping on Ben Osborn and it was not long after that the visitors found an equaliser when Webster turned the ball into his own net with Cameron Archer waiting to pounce.
The draw means Brighton remain winless in six league matches – their worst run under De Zerbi. Meanwhile, Sheffield United moved off the bottom of the EPL table with their first point away from home this season.
