De Paul’s Goal, Assist Help Atletico To 4-1 Victory Over Celta Vigo

September 11, (THEWILL) – Atletico Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 4-1 on Saturday to earn their first La Liga home victory of the season thanks to a goal and an assist from Rodrigo de Paul.

Celta proved more than a match for the hosts in most areas during the first half, forcing Diego Simeone’s team to work hard for their victory. However, they were unable to keep up that level of intensity in the second half.

In the first ten minutes, Atletico was ahead through an Angel Correa goal. De Paul’s deflected shot early in the second half and an outstanding run and finish from Yannick Carrasco followed to seal the victory for the hosts.

The visitors’ substitute Gabriel Veiga scored a goal to get them desiring an inspired comeback, but Unai Nunez’s own goal put an end to their ambitions and confirmed their loss.

Next Sunday, the Madrid Derby will see Atletico host Real Madrid in La Liga after Simeone’s side play Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. On Saturday, Celta Vigo will travel again to Valencia for their next La Liga tie.
