September 10 (THEWILL) – The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has demanded an immediate investigation into the killing of renowned social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, whose body was reportedly found in a pool of blood at his home in Kano on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and prominent opposition politician, said he was deeply disturbed by the killing and urged the Kano State Government to urgently constitute an investigative panel to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He made the demand in a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday night.

“I am deeply disturbed by the killing of the renowned social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, whose body was found today in a pool of his blood at his home in Kano”, Kwankwaso said.

Describing the incident as a horrific attack, the NDC Vice Presidential candidate said Dan Shagamu was brutally slaughtered and insisted that the perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice.

“Dan Shagamu was brutally slaughtered in a horrific attack. I strongly urge the Kano State Government to immediately constitute an investigative panel to thoroughly probe this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice”, he stated.

Kwankwaso’s call comes amid growing concerns about the safety of Nigerians who participate actively in political discourse, particularly through social media, where political commentators routinely scrutinise government policies, political parties and public officials.

The former governor warned that the failure of the authorities to conduct a decisive and transparent investigation would not end the matter.

According to him, an incoming NDC Government would launch a full investigation into the killing after assuming office if the current authorities fail to act.

“Should the authorities fail to take decisive and transparent action, the incoming NDC Government will, upon assumption of office, launch a full investigation and take all necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable”, Kwankwaso added.

He also called on both the Kano State and Federal Governments to protect opposition voices from harm, stressing that political differences should not expose citizens to threats, attacks or intimidation.

“I further call on both the State and Federal Governments to protect opposition voices from harm”, he charged.

Kwankwaso maintained that the constitutional guarantee of freedom of expression must be respected and protected by the authorities.

“The Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression for all citizens, and this right must shield everyone from threats, attacks, and intimidation”, he noted.

He further called on the authorities to ensure that a comprehensive investigation is conducted into Dan Shagamu’s death and that anyone found responsible is held accountable.

“The Nigerian authorities must ensure a full investigation and that those responsible are held accountable”, he said.

Kwankwaso expressed condolences to Dan Shagamu’s family, friends and followers, praying for the deceased to attain eternal rest.

“I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and followers. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen”, he concluded.
