August 02, (THEWILL) – Marc Cucurella, a defender for Brighton and Hove Albion, is a player that Chelsea is getting more and more confident of landing.
Manchester City wanted to sign the 24-year-old player, but they backed down at Brighton’s demand of £50 million. Chelsea stepped in and agreed to pay and held talks with Brighton but only went as far as proposing £40m. Reportedly, an agreement is being finalised, including the payment terms and add-ons, and a deal is almost ready to be signed.
Personal terms are not viewed as a problem because they are thought to have already been agreed upon in principle, and Cucurella, who was interested in moving to City, has already indicated through his representatives that he is more than delighted to join Chelsea.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel made it clear to club management that he wants three new defenders despite already buying Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, and he is already well on his way to achieving his goal. Cucrella will be a significant addition for Chelsea, who recently missed out on the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde.
Although a deal for the French international Wesley Fofana is not thought to be close, they are also making progress in their negotiations with Leicester.
