BEVERLY HILLS, December 31, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State Government on Wednesday night debunked reports that it has imposed a fine of up to N500,000 on violators of the 12 am-4am curfew during the crossover services on the eve of the New Year.
However, the government said it has enough harmonious relationship with the state’s branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, not to believe in its capacity to cooperate with the government in the battle against the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
A statement late Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, debunked an online news report which said the state government has imposed fines ranging between N20,000 and N500,000 on violators of the curfew on Dec. 31, 2020.
The statement which described the report as “inaccurate and misleading”, added that the roles being played by religious organisations are well noted by government
It said efforts to curtail the spread of the virus is a collective one.
“The Sanwo-Olu administration has maintained a harmonious relationship with religious organisations and has confidence in the ability of their leaders to ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols amid the clamour for crossover services”, the statement added.
