Cross River Women Affairs Commissioner Kidnapped

February 01, (THEWILL) – The Commissioner for Women Affairs in Cross River State, Associate Professor Gertrude Njar, has been kidnapped.

Njar was abducted hours ago along Maybe Avenue in Calabar South Local Government Area.

The State Police Command is yet to react to the incident as calls placed to the Commissioner, Balarabe Sule, as well as the Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, have not been answered.

However, the State Information Commissioner, Eric Anderson, has confirmed the incident.

He said her car has been found and retrieved and the State Government will close up on the kidnappers.

Njar was before her appointment as Commissioner weeks ago, the Special Adviser to the State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade, on Women Affairs.

She is a Professor of Quantity Surveying at the University of Calabar and hails from Ikom Local Government Area in Central Cross River State.
