June 9, (THEWILL)- The Cross River State Government has sealed an unregistered health facility, the Ben Damare Clinic and Maternity at Ekori community in Yakurr Local Government Area.
The government said the facility was unfit to deliver health services by state health authority. The Coordinator of the State’s Taskforce on Health Quality and Anti-Quackery, Dr. Dan Abubakar said the closure became necessary after the State Ministry of Health confirmed that the clinic was not on the list of registered facilities in the state.
Dr Abubakar said the Taskforce, alongside a team of policemen from Ekori Police Station, carried out the operation after the community. This he said followed an alarm raised on increasing maternal and infant mortality rates in the facility.

He maintained that medical practice in Cross River State must be done in strict compliance to laid down rules and regulations However, the proprietor of the clinic, Dr Olisa Obi, said his facility is duly registered and will provide documents to this effect.
On the spate of maternal and infant deaths in the facility, the embattled clinic owner cited complications as the major pointer to those occurrences, adding that in such a situations, regrettable as they seem, death could occur.
