Crawford Makes History With Dominant Welterweight Victory Over Spence

July 30, (THEWILL) – Terence Crawford achieved a historic victory in Las Vegas early on Sunday, dominating Errol Spence on his way to claiming the undisputed welterweight world title through a ninth-round technical knockout.

In an impressive display of skill and determination, Crawford knocked down Spence three times and overwhelmed him with a relentless barrage of blows, leading referee Harvey Dock to call a halt to the bout at 2:32 of the ninth round. By adding Spence’s World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, and International Boxing Federation titles to his own World Boxing Organisation crown, Crawford became the first undisputed welterweight world champion since boxing’s four-belt era began in 2004.

With an unblemished record of 40-0 with 31 knockouts, Crawford exhibited his exceptional talent, establishing himself as one of the sport’s most formidable fighters. This victory marked his 11th consecutive stoppage win, an outstanding feat that includes all eight of his welterweight fights. Moreover, Crawford achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first boxer to hold all the belts in two weight divisions, having previously been the lightweight and undisputed light welterweight world champion.

Throughout the match, Crawford’s precision and power were evident as he punished Spence with a piston-like jab and devastating counter punches. Despite Spence’s impressive record of 28-0 with 22 knockouts coming into the bout, he struggled to withstand Crawford’s relentless assault. The third, fourth, and sixth rounds witnessed Crawford landing hard punches, visibly rattling Spence and prompting a close examination by the ring doctor at one point.

The seventh round proved decisive as Crawford sent Spence down again with a powerful right uppercut, followed by another crushing blow to the chin. Spence valiantly tried to stay on his feet, but Crawford’s relentless assault left the referee with no choice but to stop the fight. Crawford’s triumph was met with jubilation as he celebrated his extraordinary accomplishment, displaying sportsmanship by embracing and encouraging his defeated rival.
