COVID-19: PSG Confirm Messi Negative Test As Kurzawa Tests Positive

January 06, (THEWILL) – Lionel Messi tested negative for COVID after arriving in Paris, and this has been officially confirmed by Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine was photographed on Wednesday boarding an aircraft to Paris after leaving his isolation, and the club has confirmed that he will rejoin the rest of the squad in the coming days.

However, the Ligue 1 side simultaneously confirmed that defender Layvin Kurzawa has tested positive for the virus and will now be quarantined ahead of their next fixture, a Sunday tie against Lyon in Ligue 1.

This follows an acknowledgement from PSG in an official statement the day after winning their cup tournament 4-0 against Vannes that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had tested positive for COVID-19.

The English statement of Messi’s negative status and Kurzawa’s isolation read: “Leo Messi has tested negative for Covid-19. He has arrived in Paris and will rejoin the squad in the next few days. Layvin Kurzawa tested positive this morning for Covid-19. He has been placed in isolation and is undergoing the appropriate health protocol.”

There was no information about the current statuses of Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico and Nathan Bitumazala, all of whom tested positive of the virus alongside Messi.
