November 01, (THEWILL) – The Isiokpo Division of the Rivers State High Court, in Ikwerre Local Government Area, has issued an interim order restraining the Rivers State House of Assembly from carrying out any actions concerning the impeachment of the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

THEWILL reports that the political crisis in Rivers State degenerated on Monday, after 24 members of the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, allegedly acting on the order of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, signed an impeachment notice on Governor Siminalaye Fubara.

But ruling on a motion ex parte filed by Governor Sim Fubara through his lawyer, Damian Okoro (SAN), on Wednesday, Presiding Judge, Justice Ben Whyte, restrained the Rivers Assembly, its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol, Clerk of the House, and Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, from taking any steps to impeach Fubara pending the determination of the substantive suit.

Justice Whyte, therefore, adjourned until 14th of November, 2023 for hearing on the motion on notice.
