September 28, (THEWILL) – A Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, Yobe State capital, has declared Bashir Sheriff Machina, as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North senatorial district in the 2023 elections.
The declaration was made by the presiding judge, Justice Fadima Aminu.
THEWILL reports that the Yobe North APC Senatorial ticket had been a subject of litigation between Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Machina.
INEC had, however, refused to publish name of any authentic candidate of the party pending the court ruling.
Following the judgement, the court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and publish Machina’s name accordingly.
In her verdict, the Judge affirmed Machina as the duly and validly elected candidate for APC, thereby upholding the May 28, 2022 primary election of the party that produced him.
