Court Bars Rivers Govt, Police, DSS From Arresting, Intimidating Members Of Atiku Campaign Council

February 09, (THEWILL) – A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has granted an order restraining the Governor Nyesom Wike-led State Government, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS) from arresting and intimidating members of the Atiku Campaign Council in Rivers State.

Justice A.T Ibrahim issued the order against the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), following a motion ex parte filed by leaders of the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Council in Rivers State.

The applicants in the suit are former National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus: Senator Lee Maeba, Chairman of the Council; Dr. Abiye Sekibo, Director-General of Council, who is also a former Transportation Minister; Senator Thompson George Sekibo, Senator of Rivers East; and Celestine Omehia, (derobed former Governor).

Others are: Austin Opara, former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives; Chinyere Igwe, member House of Representatives; Tamuno Sisi Gogo Jaja, immediate past Commissioner for Water Resources; and Dr Leloonu Nwibubasa, Spokesman of the Council, among others

Justice Ibrahim ordered the government and other respondents to maintain status quo until the determination of the suit.

THEWILL reports that the Spokesperson of the Atiku Campaign Council in Rivers, Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, had recently accused Governor Wike of using security operatives in the state to arrest 35 supporters of Atiku during a meeting in Port Harcourt.

He alleged that they were later profiled by the Police while 21 of them were arraigned in the Magistrate Court and later remanded in prison for alleged involvement in cultism and cult-related activities.
