Conte Responds To Richarlison’s Criticism Of Tottenham’s 2022/23 Season

March 10, (THEWILL) – Antonio Conte has responded to criticism from Brazilian forward, Richarlison, who bemoaned his lack of game time and called his debut season with Tottenham Hotspur “s**t.”

Despite playing well in recent matches against West Ham and Chelsea, Richarlison was benched after failing to score in the FA Cup against Sheffield United. Conte was asked about the comments ahead of Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest and used the opportunity to criticise the 25-year-old.

“He had injuries, played and scored in the Champions League and then went to the World Cup and then had a serious injury. He’s scored no goals for us. I think he was really honest to say his season was not good”, Conte submitted.

The Italian coach also stressed the importance of teamwork, stating: “When you speak of ‘I’ and not ‘us’ you are being selfish. I say to my players if we want to build something important and win a trophy we have to speak with ‘we’ not with ‘I’, because otherwise you’re thinking of yourself.”

Conte added that he was responsible for improving the team’s spirit and competitiveness, admitting that they had been “a bit soft” at times.
