February 09, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is back on the job after a successful surgery to remove his gallbladder.
The Italian coach had been suffering from severe abdominal pain linked with cholecystitis. He underwent the procedure last week, which caused him to miss Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester City.
Assistant coach Cristian Stellini filled in for Conte during his absence, but the 53-year-old is now back in England and has resumed his duties as head coach. Conte oversaw training on Thursday and is expected to be in the dugout for this weekend’s match against Leicester City. However, Tottenham has not officially confirmed his presence in the game.
According to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), the procedure Conte underwent typically takes about a month to fully recover from. Despite the setback, Tottenham is eager to continue their strong performance in the English Premier League and in the UEFA Champions League.
The team is currently fifth in the Premier League and is preparing for a crucial UCL match against Milan on Tuesday.
