Confusion As Earth Tremors Hit Parts Of Ghana

BEVERLY HILLS, June 25, (THEWILL) – There was panic and confusion as parts of West African nation, Ghana, was hit by at least three earth tremors.

According to local media, the incident occurred a few minutes to 11:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

The tremors were reportedly recorded in parts of the Greater Accra, Central and Eastern Regions.

Some of the affected areas include Dansoman, Lapaz, Achimota, Tesano, Santa Maria, Gbawe, Weija, Madina, Kwabenya, Nsawam, Koforidua, Swedru among others.

Ghanaian radio station, Starr Fm, quoted Director General of Ghana Geological Survey Authority, Dr. Daniel Boamah, as saying that the first one had a magnitude of 3.7, the second one was 4.2 and the third one was 3.5.

Also speaking to Ghanaian TV station, TV3, on Thursday morning, Ghana’s ambassador to South Africa, George Ayisi, said a technical committee will present their report on the earth tremor to President Nana Akuffo-Addo.

According to Ayisi, the depth of the tremor was about 10km. He urged Ghanaians to exercise caution on building on the fault lines.

“The technical committee are done with their report on the earth tremor and will present it to the president. The technical committee report is basically about what to do when these things happen so that we can educate the public,” he said.

“Once you are on a fault line, you have to be careful. I understand the depth of the tremor was about 10km. Those who are busy building on the fault lines should be very careful.”
