May 19, (THEWILL) – Cardiff City are set to make their fourth summer signing when Nigerian international Jamilu Collins has a medical on Thursday.
Collins, a 27-year-old left-back, will now take his place as the fourth signing for the club, after winger Ollie Tanner, goalkeeper Jak Alnwick and midfielder Ebou Adams, pending the results of his medicals.
Collins is expected to join on a free transfer after his contract with Bundesliga 2 club, SC Paderborn, expired at the end of the season. The player’s versatility is a significant positive, as he can play center-back, wing-back, and on the left side of midfield, although his favourite position is left-back.
He played 90 minutes for Nigeria in their 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, and Cardiff were there to see.
References from some contacts in the UK were also obtained by the Bluebirds. Former Cardiff defender Semi Ajayi, who is now at West Brom and was Collins’ international teammate, is said to be one of those who gave a favourable recommendation.
