October 18, (THEWILL) – Scotland Manager, Steve Clarke, has urged his players to halt their recent run of defeats when they face Georgia in November. The Scots went down 4-1 to World Champions France in Lille on Monday night, their third loss in a row after previous defeats to England and Spain.
Billy Gilmour had given Scotland a shock 11th-minute lead with his first international goal. But France hit back through Benjamin Pavard’s double and a Kylian Mbappe penalty before Kingsley Coman wrapped up the scoring.
Clarke made eight changes from the side that lost in Spain, handing debuts to goalkeepers Liam Kelly and Zander Clark. But he acknowledged France’s superiority, especially after going 3-1 down just before half-time.
The Scotland boss wants his team to rediscover their winning form in their final two Euro 2024 qualifiers against Georgia and Norway next month. Despite the recent defeats, Scotland have already secured their place at the finals after a strong start to their qualifying campaign.
Clarke said: “We don’t like losing. I want the players to make sure we stop this run when we go to Georgia. The target is to finish on 21 points which will make it a good campaign.”
