BEVERLY HILLS, CA, April 20, (THEWILL) – The Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Sunday declared Monday a day of prayer and fasting as it embarked on spiritual warfare to seek divine intervention for the release of the abducted female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.

CAN therefore urged all Christians in Borno State and elsewhere in the country to join in the programme.

The call was made at a press briefing addressed on Sunday by the Borno State CAN Chairman, Rev. Titus Pona, in Maiduguri.

He said it was time to turn to God through prayers and fasting for the release of the abducted schoolgirls from captivity.

We are calling on all Christians in Borno State, Nigeria and the world to fast and pray for the release of more than 100 girls said to have been kidnapped by members of the Jamatu Alisunah Lidawati Al Jihad (Boko Haram).

“I am calling on all Christians in Borno, in Yobe, Adamawa, Nigeria to fast and pray tomorrow (Monday) and let see how God will intervene,” Rev. Pona said.

He also appealed to the Boko Haram insurgents to lay down their arms and dialogue with the Federal and State Governments.

“We are calling on members of Jammat Alisunah Lidawati Al Jihad to lay down their arms and pursue their case through dialogue because if they can dialogue with the government maybe their problem will be solved.

“We are therefore calling on our brothers to release these poor girls whom they have abducted,” he said.

The Borno CAN chairman also appealed to both the Federal and the State Governments to fast-track all efforts in securing the freedom of the abducted girls .

“We call on the state and the Federal Government to please help secure these girls using the security, using whatever means to see that these poor girls return back to their parents. This is my urgent and passionate call as the chairman of CAN in Borno state,” he appealed.

Rev. Pona also called for the deployment of more security men in Chibok and most villages in southern Borno, lamenting that the insurgents have shifted their attacks to helpless and defenseless villages in the area.
