February 25, (THEWILL) – Graham Potter has spoken out about the death threats he and his family have received due to Chelsea’s recent poor performance.
The Blues have only won one of their last 10 games and face a difficult challenge against Tottenham on Sunday. Potter has been criticised for not being able to extract more from his talented but bloated squad.
In an interview before the Spurs’ match, Potter admitted that the past few months had been tough. “When the results are like they are, you have to accept criticism. But that’s not to say it’s easy at all. Your family life suffers, your mental life suffers, your personality… it’s hard,” he confessed.
While Potter addressed the criticism that he was not passionate or angry enough on the touchline, he went on to discuss the mental health challenges that managers face in football. “As much as I’ve had support, I’ve had some not particularly nice emails come through that want me to die and want my kids to die. That’s obviously not pleasant,” he said.
He acknowledged that the pressure on English Premier League managers was real, but also emphasised that there were larger issues in the world.
