November 27, (THEWILL) – Chelsea are reportedly preparing a mammoth bid in excess of £100 million for Napoli’s Serie A top scorer Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old Nigerian international is seen as the number one transfer target up front for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in 2023.

Osimhen enjoyed a prolific season last campaign, netting 26 goals to claim the Capocannoniere as the division’s leading scorer. His performances have attracted interest from across Europe, but Napoli have been working to extend his current contract beyond 2025.

However, Chelsea are ready to test Napoli’s resolve. The Blues may formalise a January approach, despite the Partenopei being unlikely sellers mid-season. Much will depend on whether Osimhen pushes for the move.

Interestingly, former Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly could play a role in negotiations. Now at Chelsea, he retains a close relationship with Osimhen and may be able to smooth discussions between the player and Stamford Bridge officials.

Should Chelsea capture Osimhen’s signature, they may eclipse the British transfer record. The £106.8 million they paid for Enzo Fernandez in 2023 could be surpassed to add the prodigious firepower they require up top.
