January 15, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have endured further attacking struggles this season, prompting the club to explore potential loan deals for strikers in the January transfer window. A new hip injury to summer signing, Christopher Nkunku, has exacerbated the Blues’ scoring issues.
With Nkunku sidelined and Chelsea misfiring in front of goal, manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is keen to bolster his forward line this month. Top target, Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, is deemed too expensive a proposition at this stage, forcing the club to consider alternative options.
According to reports in the English media, Chelsea may look to Saudi Arabia in their search for a short-term fix up front. Both Karim Benzema and Roberto Firmino have been linked with European returns despite joining Saudi sides last summer.
Real Madrid legend, Benzema, has endured a rocky spell at Al Ittihad, missing training sessions recently, which led to a banishing from the squad by manager, Marcelo Gallardo. The French striker was initially granted leave, but further unauthorised absences have put his future in doubt. The team travelled to Dubai without the French striker due to these absences.
With Benzema seemingly exiled and Firmino also touted for a possible exit by various outlets, Chelsea may seek loan deals for the experienced attackers as they aim to ignite their 2024 push up the table into European places.
