February 08, (THEWILL) – Chelsea are exploring new front-of-shirt sponsorship options as their current deal with telecommunications company, Three, is set to expire at the end of the season.
The £120 million ($145m) agreement was signed in 2020, but the club and Three have not commented on the situation, with very little in the way of renegotiating an extension in the works. It is a clear indication of the unreadiness of Three to remain the club shirt sponsor and the Blues are expected to announce a new sponsor for the 2023/2024 campaign.
The relationship between Chelsea and Three has been complicated in recent years, with Three suspending the deal after former owner, Roman Abramovich, was sanctioned by the UK Government. The club’s current owner, Todd Boehly, has invested heavily since taking over last summer, and the club is seeking a more lucrative sponsorship deal.
Chelsea’s current kit deal with Three was the fourth biggest in Premier League history, with an annual payout of £40 million ($48m). However, this is significantly lower than Manchester City’s £67.5 million ($81m) deal with Etihad Airways.
The Stamford Bridge club is reportedly in talks with multiple companies and is expected to announce a new front-of-shirt sponsor soon.
