November 20, (THEWILL) – League-leaders Chelsea returned from the international break with a resounding 3-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium .
Thomas Tuchel’s team dominated from the start and were rewarded when Antonio Rudiger scored after 14 minutes, heading home Ben Chilwell’s inswinging corner.
N’Golo Kante, a former Fox player, was allowed to run with the ball from the halfway line to the penalty area before curling a left-footed shot beyond Kasper Schmeichel’s despairing dive and inside the post just before the half-hour mark.
About 19 minutes from time, substitutes Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic collaborated for a third goal, with the former being played in by Trevor Chalobah and twisting Caglar Soyuncu before sliding the ball for the American international to slide home.
Leicester were fortunate to avoid a more comprehensive defeat when Chelsea had three goals disallowed in the second half due to offsides, as well as countless other chances throughout the game. In the end, the three goals were enough to extend Chelsea’s lead on top.
Leicester has the third-worst defence in the Premier League and it was clear again. Whether playing four at the back or three as is the case today, the failure to defend tenaciously, particularly from set pieces, has been a constant theme.
The Foxes have four games left to get their season back on track against Aston Villa, Southampton, Newcastle, and Watford. For Chelsea, the title contention is well on course.
