October 10, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have been dealt an injury blow during the international break as forward Nicolas Jackson has undergone surgery on a hand injury. The 22-year-old picked up the problem in the League Cup win over Brighton and Hove Albion last month.
Rather than link up with the Senegal national team, Jackson stayed in London for minor surgery on the nagging injury. While the exact details have not been disclosed, THEWILL understands that the procedure was not major and Jackson is expected to return in time for the English Premier League clash with Arsenal on October 21.
The news comes after Chelsea defender, Axel Disasi, also withdrew from the France squad due to a knock sustained in the 4-1 victory against Burnley. Disasi’s injury will be monitored at the club’s Cobham training base but it is hoped the summer signing from Monaco will also be fit to face the Gunners.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino will be focused on getting injured players back to fitness over the international break. Carney Chukwuemeka returned to the bench versus Burnley and continues to work on his conditioning, while captain Reece James is poised for a comeback against Arsenal after overcoming injury and suspension.
Several other key players remain sidelined but Pochettino will hope to have a stronger squad available when the Blues resume their EPL campaign after the international break.
