November 01, (THEWILL) – Reece James and Wesley Fofana, two of Chelsea’s defenders, have gone to Dubai in an effort to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
Time is running out for James to recover from a knee injury sustained during Chelsea’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Milan last month, especially as England manager, Gareth Southgate, is set to pick his England team on November 10.
James is hoping that his treatment in the warm weather will hasten his recovery because it previously seemed like he would have no chance of achieving that deadline. Fofana’s chances of playing in the World Cup are even less likely, but he joined James in Dubai to recuperate from a knee injury.
Although it now appears improbable, the former Leicester player had hoped that his move to Chelsea would enable him to push his way into the France squad for Qatar. The French team has serious injury worries, and if fully healthy, Fofana might have been certain to make the squad.
Chelsea confirmed the Dubai trip on Twitter, posting: “Reece James and Wesley Fofana will continue their rehabilitation programmes this week in Dubai. A member of the Chelsea medical department will accompany them.”
