July 13, (THEWILL) – A deal between Chelsea and Napoli for centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly to move from Naples to London has been finalised.
The west London club accelerated negotiations with the Serie A team on Tuesday, and they have moved swiftly to clinch a deal with Napoli, a team known for being difficult to negotiate with. Much of the speed of the transfer owes to the influence of Todd Boehly, who has handled many of these transactions.
The fee for the transfer will be around €40 million, and the 31-year-old is now scheduled to travel to England for a medical, before the move is formally declared with the player’s unveiling.
Koulibaly himself stated on Tuesday, that a deal was moving forward well and when asked if he could confirm that he will be playing in the English Premier League next season, said, “I’ll confirm that later, but it’s on the right track.”
