May 28, (THEWILL) – Chelsea has announced that they have achieved a “final and definitive” deal to sell the club to Todd Boehly, whose purchase is likely to be completed on Monday, May 30.
As THEWILL previously reported, the English Premier League and the UK government both approved the deal earlier this week, increasing the likelihood that it will be completed before Chelsea’s current licence expires on May 31.
There were still some doubts that the transaction would miss the deadline, but Chelsea issued a statement on Saturday to allay those fears. The statement read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm that a final and definitive agreement was entered into last night to sell the Club to the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium.
“It is expected that the transaction will be completed on Monday. The Club will update further at that time.”
Chelsea has already been awarded a provisional new licence, allowing them to begin transfer negotiations as soon as Boehly takes charge, with the American preparing some significant plans to cut the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool.
