Champions Milan Forced To Come From Behind For Draw Against Lecce

January 14, (THEWILL) – AC Milan’s struggles continued on Saturday, as they were forced to fight back from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw against Lecce in their latest Serie A match.

The result does little to ease the pressure on Manager Stefano Pioli, whose team threw away a 2-0 lead against Roma last Sunday, before being eliminated from the Coppa Italia by 10-man Torino in midweek.

The match at the Stadio Via del Mare got off to a disastrous start for Milan, as Theo Hernandez scored an own goal in the early minutes of the game. Things went from bad to worse when Lecce doubled their lead in the 23rd minute, with Federico Baschirotto scoring with a powerful header.

Despite the dire situation, Milan refused to give up and pulled one back in the 34th minute, with Rafael Leao scoring a well-taken snapshot. The comeback was completed in the 70th minute when Davide Calabria equalised with a well-placed shot. Despite the valiant effort, Milan was unable to secure the winning goal and had to settle for a draw.

The draw was enough to put Milan second in the league, but the team faces a crucial week ahead. They will meet Inter in the Italian Super Cup on Wednesday, before a trip to Lazio next Tuesday. Lecce, on the other hand, will look to continue their undefeated streak when they travel to play Hellas Verona on Saturday.
