January 28, (THEWILL) – Calum Chambers has joined Aston Villa on a three-and-a-half-year contract from Arsenal.
Chambers joined Arsenal in 2014 after excelling with Southampton, and he made over 100 appearances for the north London club in all competitions, however he never established himself as a regular starter.
The 27-year-old’s chances have been even more limited this season, as he has only played five games, scoring one in the Carabao Cup victory over Leeds.
He joins a Villa side that is presently 11th in the Premier League, but comes as part of a bolstering effort in a squad that has already seen major investment in the last year.
“It’s a massive club and they’re in a great moment at this moment in time,” Chambers told Villa’s website.
“It’s a very exciting place to be and everyone can see that from the outside. Things are happening here and it’s definitely moving in the right direction.
“For me, it was a no-brainer to join a great club. It was the right thing for me to do.”

Last summer, Villa sold Jack Grealish, allowing them to sign Emiliano Buendia, Danny Ings, and Leon Bailey, among others. They signed Lucas Digne from Everton for around £25 million earlier this month and have also brought Philippe Coutinho back to the EPL.
