Celtic On Brink Of UCL Exit After 3-1 Loss To Leipzig

October 5, (THEWILL) – Celtic lost 3-1 to RB Leipzig due to a Joe Hart blunder, which dealt an additional blow to their chances of making it to the round of 16 of the year’s UEFA Champions League as they languish at the bottom of Group F with just one point from three games.

On Wednesday, Nkunku appeared to have opened the scoring when he chipped Hart in the 17th minute, but VAR determined that he had strayed offside. Ten minutes later, he scored his first goal, beating Hart to break the deadlock.

After Dominik Szoboszlai had a goal controversially ruled off for Silva being in an offside position, Celtic tied the game two minutes into the second half thanks to Jota’s first-time finish into the bottom right corner.

But, Leipzig then unexpectedly regained the lead. Hart’s ball out of the back was intercepted by Szoboszlai at the crucial moment of the game, and he then sent Silva in for an easy goal. With 13 minutes left in the game, Silva then added another goal by popping up at the back post to complete a nice team play.

As both sides return to action in their domestic leagues, the next Bundesliga match for RB Leipzig will take place on the road on Saturday against Mainz. The next day, Celtic’s next Scottish Premiership game is away against St. Johnstone.
