July 30, (THEWILL) – New Zealand driver, Nick Cassidy, demonstrated unwavering determination as he bounced back from disappointment, missing out on the drivers’ championship in Formula E’s season-ending race on Sunday.
The rain-delayed all-electric race, held at the ExCeL Centre, saw Cassidy clinch a dominant lights-to-flag victory from pole position, achieving the team title for Envision Racing in the process. This triumph marked his fourth win of the campaign, solidifying his position as a formidable force on the track.
In the thrilling finale, Cassidy’s title aspirations had taken a hit the day before when he was forced to retire on the same indoor-outdoor circuit. However, he rallied brilliantly on the crucial day, leading fellow New Zealander Mitch Evans from Jaguar and Britain’s new world champion, Jake Dennis from Avalanche Andretti, to the checkered flag.
Envision Racing’s remarkable season nine performance also saw them attain their maiden team title, an achievement further amplified by their utilisation of Jaguar powertrains throughout the championship. They emerged triumphant with a total of 304 points, edging out Jaguar, who finished with 292 points, and Andretti, who tallied 252 points.
Jake Dennis, the newly-crowned world champion, closed the season with an impressive individual tally of 229 points, while the tenacious Nick Cassidy settled as the runner-up with 199 points. Mitch Evans concluded his campaign with a commendable 197 points, demonstrating the competitive spirit that defined the thrilling season of Formula E.
