November 16, (THEWILL) – In an entertaining UEFA Women’s Champions League clash, Real Madrid and Chelsea played out a 2-2 draw at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Wednesday night. Olga Carmona scored both goals for the home side, while Niamh Charles and Sam Kerr, were on target for the visitors.
Carmona opened the scoring for Madrid with a long-range deflected effort after just 10 minutes. However, Chelsea responded quickly through Charles’ header from an Ashleigh Lawrence cross. Kerr then put the English side ahead early in the second half with a close-range header of her own.
Madrid found an equaliser from the penalty spot as Carmona converted, after Jessie Fleming was adjudged to have fouled Athenea del Castillo in the box. Both teams searched for a late winner, but there was to be no more balls in the net.
Ultimately, the points were shared between the two European giants in the opening UCL group game. Both will look to build on the draw when Chelsea face Paris FC and Madrid take on Hacken next.
