Carabao Cup: Second Round Draw Promises Exciting Fixtures

August 11, (THEWILL) – The ties for the second round of the Carabao Cup has served up interesting matchups with Leeds set up play host to Barnsley in a Yorkshire derby, while Newcastle will travel to Tranmere and Leicester will go to Stockport.

As per the format, 13 Premier League clubs will join the competition in the second round and top English teams participating in European competitions will enter in the third round. All of these clubs must first get through ties against opponents from lower leagues.

Other second round fixtures that include English Premier League sides include Everton travelling up the Lancashire coast to Fleetwood and Aston Villa visiting Bolton, a match that used to be a regular in the top flight recently. To play Grimsby, newly promoted Nottingham Forest will travel to the east coast, while Preston will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In other matches, Brentford will switch from west London to Essex with a trip to Colchester, Bournemouth travel to Norwich, Fulham are away at Crawley, Southampton go to Cambridge and Crystal Palace will travel to Oxford.

The match between Leicester and Stockport pits the 2022 National League champions, who are in the second round for the first time since 2007, against the 2016 Premier League champions in the second round of matches that begin on August 22.
