October 30, (THEWILL) – In the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, Liverpool will face former manager Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City in one of the standout ties of the next round of the inter-divisional competition.
There will definitely be a new winner after four years as holders Manchester City were eliminated from the Carabao Cup for the first time in four seasons this week. Their opponents, West Ham United, will face Tottenham Hotspur in the final eight.
Arsenal will face Sunderland from League One, who defeated Queens Park Rangers on penalties on Tuesday night, while Premier League leaders Chelsea will face Brentford.
As THEWILL reported, West Ham ended City’s four-year reign as champions by defeating the defending champions on penalties at the London Stadium on Wednesday night. The Hammers, who have twice finished second in the League Cup but have never won it, will now face Tottenham Hotspur, who overcame Burnley 1-0 in midweek.
Sunderland, meanwhile, will return to London to face Arsenal in December as a reward for their penalty shootout victory against QPR. FA Cup record holders Arsenal has won the competition on two previous occasions, but not since 1993.
Chelsea, the most recent non-Manchester victor of the competition after winning the League Cup in 2015, will face Brentford in the quarter-finals, where they previously battled to a 1-0 Premier League win.
Meanwhile, Leicester will face eight-time winners Liverpool at the end of December in their quest for a fourth title in the competition and their first since the 1999/2000 season.
